The Road Series

The paintings in The Road Series are inspired by fleeting images of road travel.  With my windshield as a viewfinder, I observe rectangles of color - semis, billboards, street signs, license plates, earth and sky - as they advance and recede in space.  Those images, when overlapped, produce compositions filled with interesting shifts in scale and color intensity.  I began the series with the Golden Mean as my compositional "map."  Recently my work has transitioned to a more intuitive adherance to that structure, resulting in more fluid lines, looser paint application, and more experimentation with shapes that appear and disappear from the visual field.
